Leigh Ann McClain

Leigh Ann Pruitt McClain is currently the Director of Bands at Griffin Middle School in The Colony, TX, a position she has held since 2006.  As Director of Bands, she directs the Wind Ensemble and Concert Bands, assist with the Symphonic Band, teaches all beginning woodwind classes and sectionals, directs the Griffin MS Winter Guard and oversees the Griffin MS Private Lesson Staff and all aspects of the band program. In 2010, she was named TEACHER OF THE YEAR for Griffin MS and a top 5 finalist for the Lewisville Independent School District.  Under Ms. McClain’s direction, the Griffin Band program has grown to over 300 members, been a consistent UIL Sweepstakes recipient, Best In Class Award Winner, Mark of Excellence National Commended Winner, Ictus International Middle School Winner, and performed as a Music For All National Middle School Band Festival in Indianapolis, IN. as a Featured Band.

 

Prior to her position at Griffin Middle School, she served as the Assistant Director of Bands for Tahlequah Public Schools from 1994-2006 and Assistant Director of Bands for Wilburton Public Schools from 1991-1994.   She received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Oklahoma State University where she was a member of the OSU Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Flute Ensemble, Woodwind Quintet and was named the Outstanding Music Graduate in 1990.  She received her Master of Music Education Degree from Kent State University in 2018.   She is a member of Phi Beta Mu, Tau Beta Sigma, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, North Texas Color Guard Association, Sigma Alpha Iota, Women Band Director International (WBDI) and serves as the National Music Chairman for Zeta Tau Alpha.  She is a member of the “Saluting America’s Band Directors” National Marching Band as a State of Texas representative and marched in the Rose Parade in 2022 and in the Macy’s Day Parade in 2023.   Ms. McClain has presented clinics at TMEA in 2010, 2014, 2020 and 2024.  She has served as an adjudicator in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Missouri in concert, sightreading, color guard and solo/ensembles.
