Chris Harris

Chris Harris has taught in Owasso since 2004. In June of 2014 he was named Director of Bands for Owasso Public Schools. He conducts the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Basketball Pep Band and teaches AP Music Theory. Mr. Harris also conducts the Owasso High School musical each Spring and coordinates the PRIDE of Owasso Marching Band. 

Mr. Harris previously instructed the Symphonic Band (2nd Band of 5), the 8th Grade Concert Band and the Steel Drum Band. In 2006, 2010 and 2014 the Symphonic Band was selected to perform as an Honor Band at the OKMEA Convention. The Wind Ensemble was an OKMEA Honor Band in 2017. Harris’ bands have earned 32 OSSAA Sweepstakes Awards and 9 OSSAA Junior High Outstanding Achievement Awards. In the marching arena, he has been on staff of 7 BOA Grand National Finalist bands from 3 different schools and has been on staff of 4 BOA Super Regional Champions from 2 different schools. Harris’ percussion groups performed a Showcase Concert at the 1995 PASIC Convention in Phoenix and was a WGI Finalist in 1995 and 1997. He was a Guest Conductor at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in 2012 and 2023 and has conducted numerous honor bands in the state of Oklahoma. Harris has been a conductor at the University of Arkansas Summer Music Camp for over a decade.

Harris graduated from the University of Oklahoma with Bachelor and Master degrees in Music Education in 1990 and 1992, respectively. He has also taught in the Moore, Union and Broken Arrow school systems.

Mr. Harris is a member of Phi Beta Mu, OkMEA, NAfME, OBA and is a Bands of America Adjudicator.
